During the post-inspection
debriefing, LCDR Cox told the division basically the same thing he's been saying
the past 3 years -- we can compete against anyone in the
region in regards to personnel inspection, or any other area, BUT the division
must have 25 Sea Cadets to compete. As you can see, the area needing improvement
is recruiting/retention. We need an ALL HANDS effort to make the unit grow.
Remember, you earn a Recruiting Incentive Ribbon for each cadet you bring
aboard. Middle school age is ideal, as we increase the number of NSCC cadets
almost immediately, yet they will have several years to go in the division.
DON'T JUST BRING SOMEONE IN FOR THE SAKE OF ADDING BODIES -- if they don't stay,
it won't help us or them. Be honest about the program, and if they're not
interested, don't browbeat them into coming. LCDR Cox told me that we are one of
the top 5 units in the region, but we need to grow.
Again, THE C.O. IS VERY HAPPY!!!
BRAVO ZULU to all of you!!!

Major Award Issued

The Navy League Youth Medal
was awarded to Petty Officer Rachel Erb, who received the honor when she was named the Aurora Division NSCC Cadet of
the Year 2005. Her citation read:
"During the past year, Petty Officer
Erb has shown excellent growth as a leader. She was awarded the NSCC
Commendation, the NSCC’s sixth highest award, for her outstanding performance as
a Medical Staff Cadet at Recruit Training, Great Lakes. She does an excellent
job communicating with the cadets under her as a Section Leader, Color Guard
Commander, and now Assistant Leading Petty Officer. She sets a good example and
gets along well with others. She sets high goals and standards for herself, then
works hard to meet them. She has shown dedication to the division and corps, and
the core values of Honor, Courage, and Commitment. She wears her uniform in a
manner which reflects her pride in both self and corps; her attitude and
behavior are always in the highest traditions of the U.S. Navy, the U.S. Coast
Guard, and the U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps."

The "business" of the day was the Annual Inspection
First, some
preparation and rehearsal led by WO Bonus, MIDN Mosely, and PO Starr ...
then
the inspection followed by the
Awards presentations and Pass-in-Review.
As always, we ended
with social time and a debriefing from LCDR Cox.
