Pearl Harbor Day Luncheon

Aurora honored its four area Pearl Harbor survivors at a luncheon held by the Navy League of the United States Aurora Council. Sea Cadets from the Aurora Division showed service in action as they saw to the doors for the many guests arriving and played the music for the event. Speaker Rear Admiral Clifford Sharp, who commands the Naval Service Training Command at Great Lakes, took time out after the luncheon to meet with our Sea Cadets and learned about their exciting training experiences at advanced trainings throughout the fleet. It was great he could see them in action serviing the crowd of veterans, active duty military, cvic leaders and interested citizens.

Bravo Zulu to our Pearl Harbor survivors, living witnesses to Honor, Courage and Commitment.

Aurora Division Drill at the U.S. Army Reserve Center in Aurora

Ships Ahoy and Chips Ahoy

A Chilly December day at the Fox Valley Army Reserve Center had us learning how to improvise, adapt, and overcome. Ensign McClure filled in for Lt. (j.g.) Cabe and the cadets learned the benefits of indoor exercise in tight spaces. Calisthenics indoors combined with some chilly and icy marching practice outdoors. We learned about Pearl Harbor in the classroom and some more in an episode of JAG that dramatized the events of that "Day of Infamy". Our own sailor-actors also came up with some great skits to dramatize how to get along with shipmates.

It took 5 years but Mr. McClure finally worked in the ultimate Activity X ... Milk and Cookies! Oreos and Chips Ahoy were a special one-time treat. We've all got physicals and summer trainings to get ready for, so let's get back in shape! JAG, the TV show about Navy lawyers, also had some good lessons for us in an episode about a sailor deserting her ship because she didn't get what she thought her recruiter promised. The moral lesson...the needs of the Navy, the country and others should come first.

With that in mind we'll be up at Great Lakes to serve service families as part of the USO Holiday outreach. See you there, we'll have fun serving others with Honor, Courage and Commitment!
